The Circus is the focus of the masterplan set out
by the Practice after winning the Morrison Street
Goodsyard Competition.
The development was funded by three clients with
varying briefs calling for:
- luxury flats for sale
- market rent private dwelling
- student accommodation
The Circus is divided into eight blocks each serviced
by its own stair and entrance. The stairs containing
the flats for sale and rent each contain the following
mix of accommodation:
- two one bedroom flats
- nine two bedroom flats
- one three bedroom flat.
Each stair containing student accommodation has twelve
four bedroomed flats.
The external elevations are articulated by stone detailing
and careful proportioning. This adaptation of the classical
language prevalent in Edinburgh breaks down the scale and
helps integrate the building into the urban landscape.
