Queensferry Lodge Hotel
Edinburgh
Project Value: £1 million
Client: Regal & Corus Hotels
The Hotel site is on the north shore of the River
Forth adjacent to the Forth Road Bridge and there
are incredible views to the South which take in the
Rail and Road Bridges.
When the Client purchased the existing hotel the
bedrooms contained within it did not address the spectacular
scenery, so in commissioning the Practice to extend
the existing facilities with 47 bedrooms our brief
in addition to the standard requirements was to allow
guests to appreciate the external environment when
in their rooms. This was achieved by completely glazing
the entire front wall of each bedroom and providing
an inward opening door in this wall allowing residents
the ability to experience the external atmosphere
as if on a ship.
In order to erect the extended facility as quickly as possible
it was decided to utilise a modular building system which
consisted of a module of two bedrooms with a central corridor.
These were fabricated and completely finished in Yorkshire,
transported by articulated lorry and positioned in-situ then
the electrics were connected and the external cladding applied.
The substructure and drainage was completed in August and
the remainder of the contract 12 weeks thereafter.
